Shadow Work for Abundance: Transforming Your Beliefs About Prosperity

Shadow Work for Abundance: Transforming Your Beliefs About Prosperity

Shadow work is a profound and transformative practice that invites us to explore the hidden parts of ourselves: the aspects we often avoid or suppress. For modern witches, especially those just beginning to walk their magical paths, shadow work offers a unique opportunity to align their inner world with their external manifestations. In this blog post, I will guide you through the meaning, purpose, and transformative power of shadow work for abundance, weaving in insights from the Shadow Work Journal for Witches. Let’s begin this journey toward self-discovery and abundance.

What is Shadow Work?

At its core, shadow work is the practice of exploring the unconscious aspects of ourselves; the “shadow”; which Carl Jung described as the side of our personality we reject or deny. These hidden aspects often hold unresolved emotions, limiting beliefs, and patterns that influence our thoughts and behaviors in ways we may not fully understand. By shining a light on these shadows, we gain greater self-awareness and the ability to transform what no longer serves us.

For witches, shadow work is particularly powerful. It deepens our intuition, strengthens our magical practice, and enhances our connection to the universe. As a modern witch, shadow work has become an integral part of my spiritual journey. It allows me to align my inner world with my outer intentions, creating harmony and abundance in all areas of life.

Why Shadow Work is Essential for Abundance

Abundance isn’t just about wealth: it’s about feeling fulfilled, prosperous, and connected to the flow of life. However, our shadow often holds limiting beliefs about abundance, such as “I am not worthy of prosperity” or “Success is only for others, not me.” These beliefs can block the energy of abundance from flowing freely into our lives.

Through shadow work, we can uncover and transform these limiting beliefs. By doing so, we open ourselves to receiving abundance in all its forms: love, creativity, opportunities, and financial prosperity. Shadow work is not about ignoring our struggles; it’s about embracing them, understanding their roots, and using that understanding to grow.

How to Begin Shadow Work

For those new to shadow work, starting can feel overwhelming. Here are some practical steps to guide you:

  1. Set Your Intention: Begin by identifying the aspect of your life you want to focus on. For abundance, ask yourself, “What beliefs or patterns might be holding me back from experiencing prosperity?
  2. Journaling: One of the most accessible tools for shadow work is journaling. Use prompts such as:
    • What does abundance mean to me?
    • What beliefs about prosperity did I inherit from my family or society?
    • How do I react when I experience scarcity or lack?
    • When do I feel most abundant in my life, and what blocks me from feeling that way more often?
    • What would I do if I knew I deserved unlimited abundance?
    • How do I sabotage my own success or prosperity?
    • What fears arise when I imagine myself being truly prosperous?
    • Do I believe there is “enough” for everyone, or do I see abundance as limited?
    • How do I react when others around me experience success or wealth?
    • What does financial freedom mean to me, and what beliefs prevent me from achieving it?
    • In what ways do I equate my self-worth with money or material possessions?
    • What would change in my life if I fully embraced my worthiness of abundance?
    • What stories do I tell myself about why I can’t have what I desire?
    • How can I honor both my material needs and my spiritual values around prosperity?
  3. Dream Work: Dreams are a gateway to the unconscious mind. Keep a dream journal and pay attention to symbols or recurring themes related to abundance and prosperity. Reflect on how these might connect to your shadow.
  4. Meditation and Visualization: Spend time in quiet meditation, visualizing yourself releasing old beliefs and embracing new, empowering ones. Imagine abundance flowing into your life as you align with your higher self.
  5. Work with Your Intuition: Trust your inner guidance. Shadow work is deeply personal, and your intuition will lead you to the areas that need healing and transformation.
  6. Transform Limiting Beliefs into Empowering Ones: Once you’ve identified negative beliefs about abundance, actively work to reframe them into positive, life-affirming statements. Here are three examples of such transformations:
    • I don’t deserve wealth” → “I am worthy of abundance in all its forms, and I welcome prosperity into my life.
    • Money is the root of all evil” → “Money is a tool that allows me to create positive change and support my dreams and the well-being of others.
    • There’s never enough for me” → “The universe is infinitely abundant, and there is more than enough for everyone, including me.

Mini-Ritual: “The Thread of Abundance”

This ritual is designed to gently open your inner space for receiving; not from pressure or force, but from trust. It’s not about “immediately” or “right now,” but about moving step by step, at your own pace.

What you need and how to prepare:

  • 1 green candle,
  • 1 bill (a small denomination is perfectly fine),
  • 1 piece of string or ribbon (approx. 8–16 inches), and
  • optionally a pen and a small piece of paper

Sit down comfortably, place the candle in front of you, and lay the bill beside it. If you wish, place one hand briefly on your heart and breathe in and out calmly three times.

Step 1: An Honest Sentence

Take the bill in both hands. Softly speak a sentence that feels true right now. For example:

  • “Part of me is afraid that money always means stress.”
  • “Part of me believes there is never enough.”
  • “Part of me feels insecure about receiving.”

One sentence is enough. You don’t have to resolve or change anything. You may simply notice it.

Step 2: Binding String = Bundling Intention

Fold the bill calmly once and wrap the string around it three times. With each round, you speak (quite matter-of-factly, quite gently) a sentence:

  1. “I may release what sounds like lack.”
  2. “I open myself to abundance that feels good.”
  3. “I receive through aligned pathways.”

Then you tie a gentle knot; not tight from a place of control, but rather like a loving seal that holds your intention.

Step 3: Green Light

Light the candle. Hold the bound bill briefly near the candlelight (not in the flame).

Speak slowly: “Green light, soft and clear, remind me of my worth. Abundance finds me on good pathways, and I am ready to receive.”

Breathe deeply five times. Imagine how something within you relaxes as soon as you no longer have to struggle.

Step 4: Closing + Keeping

Say: “So it is.” or “Thank you.” and extinguish the candle.

Place the bound bill in a location that signifies money flow to you:

  • Wallet
  • Cash register or money drawer
  • Under your journal
  • In a small “Abundance” box

Important: Leave the string on for 7 days. After that, you can untie it and use the bill normally. (Symbolically: Abundance may come into movement.)

Journaling after the ritual:

Which version of me feels safe with more money and what does she need in order to relax?

Embracing Your Shadow for Creative Abundance

Shadow work is not easy, but it is one of the most rewarding practices you can undertake as a modern witch. By facing your shadows with courage and compassion, you transform not only your relationship with abundance but also your relationship with yourself. Remember, abundance flows freely to those who believe they are worthy of receiving it.

As you embark on this journey, keep an open heart and a curious mind. Shadow work is a lifelong practice, and every step you take brings you closer to your fullest potential.

Creative Light and Love, Ramona
